Chili Papad

Considered as one of the favorite side dishes, Papad definitely are many people’s favorite. Who would not want to munch on those thin crispy things while having their meals? Rare are the people who don’t like it. It can be barbequed over the medium heat directly or deep tried on oil, either way, it tastes great with rice. Not only at home but we can also find Papad served during various gatherings and parties.

5 sheets of papad

1 tbsp curry powder

1 tbsp finely chopped garlic

1 tbsp finely chopped ginger

10 finely chopped fresh red chilies

5 tbsp chopped cilantro

1 cup fresh chopped tomatoes

1 cup chopped red onion

2 tbsp lime juice

1 tbsp toasted cumin seeds

5 tbsp mustard oil for seasoning

1 cup oil for deep frying

Salt to taste

First of all, take a mixing bowl and combine all ingredients for topping including curry powder, garlic, ginger, chilies, tomatoes, onions, cilantro, toasted cumin seeds, salt and mustard oil and mix it all thoroughly.

Next, take a deep frying pan and heat oil in it. Now, deep fry the papad sheets one at a time until it turns crispy. However, make sure you do not deep fry the papads as it might turn bitter in taste. When the frying is completed, place the fried papad sheets on paper towel to absorb the excess oil. Then, let it cool for about two minutes. When the papad cools, sprinkle three tablespoons of the seasoned toppings over it and your Chili Papad is ready to serve.
