Civil Service Hospital

Realizing the need for a hospital dedicated to the civil service employees of Nepal Government, just like Nepal Army and Nepal Police employees, the government approached the Peoples’ Republic of China with the request to help it build Civil Service Hospital in Nepal. The result of the agreement stands proudly in Minbhawan, Kathmandu as the first Civil Service Hospital of Nepal. An autonomous government institution under the Ministry of General Administration, Civil Service Hospital is operated by a seven-member hospital board.



Civil Service Hospital is the first one of its kind with 132 beds and all the facilities needed for providing quality health services to the people. The hospital was handed over to the Nepalese government on November 14, 2008 and it was after five months, on March 29, 2009 that the out-patients services were started in the hospital. The hospital inaugurated on May 30, 2009 embraced additional facilitates such as emergency services, in-patient services and operation services on January 21, 2010.

Established with the major aim of providing quality, state of art and affordable healthcare services to all the past and present civil service employees and their immediate family members, the hospital, within the short period of its establishment has gained a very good response from the people. The hospital aims to establish an efficient, transparent and smoothly functioning hospital administration, recruit, train and retain sufficient numbers of dedicated, motivated, knowledgeable and highly skilled specialist doctors, nursing, paramedical and other supportive staffs in all specialties and super specialties of medicine, ensure high turnover of patients in the hospital by opening it to the general public as well, provide specialist doctors and supportive staffs regular opportunities for academic activities like research, continuous medical education and training and establish cooperation with best national and international hospitals and health related institutions arranging exchange of clinical and other experts on a regular basis, develop the hospital into a post graduate training institution, provide adequate financial, job-related and personal incentives to the staffs, maintain the hospital as a non-profit hospital, subsidy charges of hospital service used by civil service employees, utilize extra income generated by providing healthcare services to the general public for subsidizing healthcare service charges, increasing incentives to staffs and establishing a fund for social welfare for financially needy patients and install the best and most advanced medical equipments available to make the medical and surgical services available to the patients at earliest.

Responsible for the basic treatment of all civil servants and their dependent family all over the country, the hospital offers certain discounts for services provided to the civil service employees and their immediate family, however, there are certain rules and guidelines to be followed. The hospital have various departments such as department of Internal Medicine, Anesthesiology, Family Medicine and Emergency, General Surgery, Obs/Gynecology, Orthopedics, Radio diagnosis and Imaging, Pathology, Mental Health, Ophthalmology, Dermatology, ENT, Dentistry, Nursing, Pharmacy, Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation, Hospital Management, Engineering and Maintenance, Biological Department, Hospital Security Unit, Dietary and Canteen Unit, Hospital Store Unit, House-keeping and Laundry Unit, Outpatient and Extended Health Services Unit, Library, Operation Theatre Unit, Emergency Unit, Medical Record Unit, IT and Communication Unit and Social Service Unit.
