Homemade Medical Remedies in Nepal

Nepal, the land of medicinal herbs and plants has many such herbal plants that have high medicinal values. Besides, Yarshagumba, the ultimate medicinal herb, there are many other plants and herbs that contain high medicinal elements. These herbs and plants can be used for various purposes, to treat various illness and diseases.



Some of the herbs and plants and their uses for medicinal purpose are given below:

Jwano (Thyme seeds)

It is good for health and the various chemical properties it possesses are helpful for treating various diseases. It is effective when you have stomach problems. Eating it raw with hot waters gives relief from pain. Also, eating Jwanoko Jhol is a good source of energy during post-pregnancy, cold and body aches.

Rhododendron petals

These petals serve as healer for wound and are also considered good for blood circulation. It is also said that if a bone (fish bone) get stuck in throat, then eating it eases the pain and removes it. Also, chanting the name is said to have the same kind of effect (a myth or probably superstition).

Remedy for cold

One of the best remedies for cold is Jwanuko Jhol. Second is the Mishriko Kada, a good use for cold and also one of the traditional energy drinks prepared in Nepali households.

Another remedy for cold is a soup of seven different ingredients that include cloves, cinnamon stick, jimmu, jwano, ginger, turmeric and salt. Mix all these ingredient in water and boil until the quantity reduces to half.

For stopping vomiting / gastric

One of the best homemade remedies for it is a soup of five elements that includes timur, ginger, turmeric, salt and jwano. Put it in water and bring it to boil. Boil it for about 10 to 15 minutes and drink hot.

Cure for dysentery

One of the homemade cures for dysentery is eating dried belichanda petal’s powder with maadh (the boiling water drained while cooking rice in pot).
