Born on 18 July, 1993 in Bansbari, Kathmandu, one of the excellent swimmers of Nepal, Karishma Karki is a national level swimmer and a gold medalist along with being a record creator. This girl in her early twenties considers pool as her second home and spends 2-3 hours in the water every day. She had hesitated entering into the pool in Dasarath Rangashala for the first time at the age of 7 but since then, she has never looked back.

The daughter of a coach and member of Nepal Swimming Association Ishwor Karki, she forced her dad to teach her techniques of swimming as soon as she learned the basics. This talented girl has already participated in the Olympic at the age of 16 while most of the skilled sports person practice hard and still could not achieve it. She improved her skills and talents as a national level champion, however, won no medals at the Beijing Summer Olympics 2008. At the 5th National Games, she won gold medals at all the events she participated in and created a national record. She won 12 gold medals which gave her the experience of the lifetime and changed her life for good.

Karki is a student of architecture at Khwopa Engineering College and has a tight schedule with her studies and regular practice. This avid fan of horror movies loves to spend her weekends watching horror flicks and is also interested in interior designing. She belongs to the family of swimmers as all her other three siblings are also national level swimmers.

She had also participated in the 9th South Asian Games held in Pakistan. In 2009, Nepal Sports Journalist Federation awarded her with The Best Female Player of the Year award. The gold medals she won at the National Games are: 200m Breast-stroke, 100m Butterfly, 50m Backstroke, 100m Freestyle, 200m Freestyle, 200m Backstroke, 50m Butterfly, Women’s relay, 200m Individual medley, 100m Backstroke, 100m Breaststroke and 50m Freestyle.

She does complain about the lack of proper facilities at the pool which is opened only during the summers and because of which her practice is hampered. Also, her studies are affected due to her sudden success at the game. But her dedication and hard-work ensures this talented and skilled swimmer’s bright future ahead. Karishma with her talent and skill is pride of Nepal.
