Kathmandu Medical College and Teaching Hospital

With a mission to provide quality medical education within a modern academic environment, Kathmandu Medical College and Teaching Hospital was established in the year 1997. Located in the Kathmandu valley, it has proved to be one of the leading private medical colleges in Nepal. It has not only been permanently affiliated to the Kathmandu University, Nepal Medical Council and Srilanka Medical Council but has also been listed in the WHO’s World Directory of Medical Schools electronic format since June 2000. Popularly known as KMC, the college has also been listed in the International Medical Education Directory (IMED) following its full recognition by NMC. Moreover, it is an Associate Member of the Network Towards Unity for Health (TUFH) that has its headquarters in Glent in Belgium.

The college operates from two places or sections, basic sciences at Duwakot, Bhaktapur and clinical sciences at Sinamangal, Kathmandu with its main hospital located in Sinamangal near the Tribhuwan International Airport. In addition to that, a community hospital is being built near the basic science campus in Duwakot.

The college enrolls around 150 students annually among which fifteen are selected from Ministry of Education Nepal under Scholarship category. It offers post-graduate courses along with MBBS and BSC Nursing. The Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery is a four and a half year integrated program which is followed by a compulsory internship training of one year. The MD (Pathology) program was started from 2003 and the MD/MS in clinical areas like Medicine, Surgery, Pediatrics, Gyane/Obs and Anesthesia started from February 2009. The college offers fellowship in five different areas for the newly qualified graduates of Kathmandu Medical College who passes the Part-1 examination conducted in October and March. As a recognized centre for the training of fellowship of the college of Physicians and Surgeons for Pakistan (CPSP) in five specialties, Kathmandu Medical College and Teaching Hospital provides posts at the teaching hospital for the candidates who have passes the CPSP part-1 examinations.
