Most Successful Nepali Movie Loot

The Nepali crime action movie Loot, a directorial debut by Nischal Basnet, is considered to be the most successful Nepali movie so far (2012), with the gross collection of 5.5 crores in Nepal and oversees.

Starring the new talents, Saugat Malla, Karma, Dayahang Rai, Richa Sharma, Srijana Subba, Sushma Karki, Prateek Raj Neupane, and Sushil Raj Pandey, the film revolves around the contemporary Kathmandu and its ambitious and money minded residents. In an attempt to get rich in short time they plan to rob a bank. The movie begins with a song titled Paisa (money) that goes perfectly with its theme.

The most popular character in the movie, Hakku Kale (Saugat Malla), is a guy from a Newari community who dreams big. His typical Newari tone is the main reason behind his popularity. His strategy of robbing a bank requires him to look for four other guys who are in dire need of money. Thus, enter the other four.

The film then explores the strategy Hakku Kale mapped out for the robbery. With a bit of romance and a little comedy in-between, the film proceeds. The songs are balanced by an item number and a slow sentimental one. The climax and the ending of the movie are unexpectedly interesting with the members trying to double-cross each other.

Although the script was criticized, the movie was appreciated for its originality and twist. All the actors have done their best and the presentation is good. The movie being the debut by the director is worth the praise. It was not only appreciated by the audience in Nepal but also abroad. With small exception of vulgar dialogues that were later replaced by the beeps, the movie caters complete entertainment to all kinds of movie lovers in Nepal and abroad.
