Nepali Style Tomato Salsa

Chutneys or achars are integral part of Nepali food. No matter which community the food recipe belongs to, there is always an achar to complement and enhance its taste. Among the various, tomato achar is common and easy to prepare and one of the many ways of making tomato achar is making Nepali Style Tomato Salsa for which the recipe is given below:



Ingredients:

5 medium ripe tomatoes

1 medium finely chopped onion

3 – 4 finely chopped green chilies

3 cloves finely chopped garlic

1 tsp finely chopped ginger

4 – 5 finely chopped mint leaves

1 sprig finely chopped coriander leaves

2 tbsp lemon juice

1 tbsp chili powder

½ tbsp mustard seeds

1 tsp mustard oil

Salt to taste

First of all, blanch the tomatoes in hot water removing their skin and put it in a blender to make its puree. Now, add the onion, garlic, ginger, mint leaves, green chilies, coriander leaves, chili powder, lemon juice and salt to the tomato puree and mix thoroughly. Then, heat a pan and add one tablespoon of oil in it. When the oil is heated, add the mustard seeds to it. Be careful as they will splutter. Then switch off the gas and pour the oil and mustard seeds on the puree and mix it well. Your Nepali Style Tomato Salsa is ready to be served with corn chips or papads or salads.
