Nirnaya Da’ NSK
Nirnaya Da’ NSK, real name Nirnaya Shrestha, is one of the most well known names in Nepali music industry. NSK that stands for ‘Naughty Soul Kid’ is not only famous for his hip hop and R&B music but is also famous for his involvement in social cause, most importantly providing education to the underprivileged children.
He is the founder, engineer, performing artist, concept developer and motivator for the Nirnaya Da NSK’s Tour for Education that started in 2006 with the theme ‘Education is the Foundation of Life’. He had and has been performing at different schools of Nepal along with his team, collecting books, stationeries and education materials which are later distributed all across the country where the children need these. Also, a founder member of a social organization for the children, their education and the awareness of HIV/AIDS named Nava Dailo, he has not only made contributions in the field of social work but also in the field of Nepali music.
He had studied at St Xavier’s school from grade to four after which he joined Hillcrest Elementary School in New Berlin, Wisconsin, however, he only completed grade five there and then joined Mt Logan Middle School for grade to eight. He completed his SLC examinations from St Xavier’s School, Kathmandu where he had enrolled in grade nine. He completed his +2 (High School) education from Campion Academy and in 2007, joined College of Journalism and Mass Communication.
He started working with the Image FM 97.9 MHz situated in Kathmandu since 1999 as a Senior Program Producer. The artist with a Red Cap as his trademark wears the color red to represent the Red Blood symbolizing that ‘underneath the skin, we all have the same red blood flowing’. He also makes sure to include a white part to his clothing (apart from a white band on his hand he always wears) which represents peace.
The first band he was involved with was his school band back in 1997-2000 named Life Sucks, then came another of his amateur band name Nirnaya and the All Stars that lasted since 1999 to 2000 before he came up with his professional group Rappaz Union which released its first album in the year 2000. He has also been featured on the cover of some of the popular magazines like Wave Magazine (featured twice), Aaha Sangeet and Glamour Plus.
One of the most loved and respected Nepali artists, he has also been voted at the 17th position by VOW magazine in the 49 Top Men of Nepal 2006, named the goodwill ambassador of Rotaract Club of Kathmandu Midtown 2008 and also the goodwill ambassador of Youth For Youth in 2008, goodwill ambassador of UCAAN (Universal Access for Children Affected with AIDs in Nepal in 2009, honorary lifetime member of Children For Green New Nepal (CGNN) in 2009, goodwill ambassador of Success For Teens 2010, ambassador for Mega Blood Donation by Rotaract Club of Jawalakhel, Manjushree and Rotaract Club of Kupandol in 2011, goodwill ambassador of Alcohol Recovery Voice Nepal 2011, adviser of Child Protection Forum Nepal 2011, President of Nava Dailo in 2011, , Although he has never smoked or drank alcohol, he is always seen chewing a gum.
[youtube]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x-Ub3Uzw-t4[/youtube] He has also won awards like Kalika FM award for Best Hip Hop and Rap artist of the year 2005, Image Award Best Vocal Performance of the Year with National Feeling for the song ‘Ma Nepali’ in 2057 BS, Sixth Annual Image Award Best Vocal Performance of the year 2060 Rock and Others (together with his band), Channel Nepal Music Video Awards – Best Rap Video of the Year for ‘Din Pani’, third highest played band of the year by Kantipur FM, Academic Fitness Award received from President George Bush (Class 8, USA) and has been nominated for various other awards for his songs and performances.
He has served as the President of the student counsel in Campion Academy, General Secretary of the student counsel at Campion College, has become Mr Campion 2000 and also started a company www.sajilo.com . He has released many videos and songs as a band, a solo artist and in collection albums and has given many concerts in and out of Nepal. He has continued his initiative Nirnaya Da’ NSK Tour for Education and has toured and performed at many educational institutions within at outside the Kathmandu valley.
