Nuptse Himalaya stands proudly at the height of 7,861m on central Nepal. This mountain in the Khumbu region of the Mahalangur Himal is considered as one of the major Mountain expeditions in Nepal. Nuptse I, the main peak was first ascended on May 16, 1961 by Dennis Davis and Sherpa Tashi, members of a British expedition. Later in, 1990s and 2000s, it gained more popularity and major routes were added up on its west, south and north faces.

The word Nuptse is a Tibetan word for ‘west peak’, as it is the western part of the Lhotse–Nuptse massif and the mountain lies two kilometers west of Mount Everest. There are seven peaks making the east-west trending of the main crest of Nuptse proud. They are: Nuptse I (7,861m), Nuptse II (7,827m), Nuptse Shar I (7,804m), Nuptse Nup I (7,784m), Nuptse Shar II (7,776m), Nuptse Nup II (7,742m) and Nuptse Shar III (7,695m).

On first day, you go to the Lukla via plane from Kathmandu airport. From there, you pass through Jorsale (9,100ft) where you pay a fee to enter the Sagarmatha National Park and then continue the trek for another 2-3 hours up to the main village of Namche Bazaar. Next day, you will pass through Shyangboche at 11,800 ft. and then to the village of Khunde at 12,600 ft. Trekking to Nuptse takes you to and through various ethnic and cultural villages of Khumjung, Pungo Tenga, Tengboche, Pangboche, Pheriche, Dunhla, Labouche, Gorak Shep and Kala Pattar or Everest Base Camp. The splendid and mystifying mountain views are always there to accompany the trekkers and also the villages are rich in natural as well as cultural assets.

The best time for climbing this beautiful mountain is during April, May, September and October. The nearest major airport from the mountain range is Kathmandu airport but the most convenient center from the mountain is the Namche Bazaar.
