Sadheko Bhogate, Nepali salad

Pomelo, locally known as Bhogate is widely cultivated citrus fruit in most Asian countries. It is harvested around the beginning of the winter season and one of the snacks people in Nepal enjoy the while sitting in the sun during winter is Bhogate Sadheko. The fruit is also used during the Mha Puja and Bhai Tika.



Sadheko Bhogate or Bhogate Sadheko is a popular Nepali salad, usually served as lunch or snack, which tastes best when eaten in a group sitting and basking oneself in the sun. Also, the salad is prepared in a group of two or more as the bhogate starts turning bitter is exposed in air for a longer period after its outer skin is peeled off. It is easy to prepare and one can simple enjoy this fruit alone with salt and spice or mix it with some other tasty and tangy fruits adding up to the taste. One of the many ways to prepare Pomelo salad is given below:

Ingredients:

Pomelo (bhogate), other fruits (such as orange and pomegranate), plain yogurt, roasted ground sesame powder, fenugreek seeds, ground peanuts, salt, sugar, red Chili powder, turmeric powder and vegetable oil.

Procedure

Peel and skin the fruits, cut them into pieces and put them into a large bowl. Now, add the yogurt, salt, sugar, red chili powder, sesame powder and ground peanuts and mix all the ingredients well. Heat some oil in a pan and add the fenugreek seeds and let the seed turn black. Now, turn off the heat and wait for a while. Then, add turmeric powder in the oil and pour into the bowl and mix the ingredients well. Now, serve it in small bowls and sit around and enjoy the delicious Sadheko Bhogate with your family or friends basking in the sun this winter.
