Founded as a high school of St. Xavier’s School in Jawalakhel, Lalitpur, St. Xavier’s College is one of the most popular and reputed educational institution in Nepal. The college was shifted to Maitighar in 1988 by the Society of Jesus. It is one of the five Jesuit educational institutes in Nepal among which St. Xavier’s School is at Godavari and Jawalakhel and Jhapa (one each) and Moran Memorial School at Jhapa. The college offers undergraduate and post graduate degrees in natural science, business, social science and humanities along with intermediate degrees like the Cambridge A-levels and the 10+2 programs.

The college is one of the most sought after colleges in Nepal and every year more than eight thousand students compete to get enrolled here. However, it only accepts around five to six hundred students, depending upon the class structure. One of the most competitive colleges in Nepal, the passed out students from here are considered to have an added advantage to their bio data. Also the procedure for admission and entrance exams are highly competitive as the students need to compete with more than eight thousand students to get enrollment.

The academic programs offered here are Cambridge A-levels, 10+2 in science, and for undergraduate level Bachelor’s of Science in Physics (B.Sc Physics), Bachelor’s of Science in Microbiology B.Sc Microbiology), Bachelor’s of Computer System and Information Technology (B.Sc CSIT), Bachelor’s of Information Management (BIM), Bachelor’s of Social Work (BSW), Bachelor’s of Business Studies (BBS) and Bachelor’s of Arts (BA). Similarly, it offers Master’s of Science in Physics (M. Sc Physics), Master’s of Science in Microbiology (M.Sc Microbiology), Master’s of Business Studies (MBS), Master’s of Social Work (MSW) and Master’s of Arts in English Literature (MA) for postgraduate programs.
