Sukraraj Tropical and Infectious Disease Hospital

The only tropical and infectious disease hospital in Kathmandu, Sukraraj Tropical and Infectious Disease Hospital (STIDH) was established in the year 1933. The national referral hospital has the capacity of 100 beds inpatient service and the patients admitted here are not only from within the valley but from all over the country. The hospital also provides training to undergraduate and postgraduate medical students coming from different countries to undergo the training in infectious and tropical diseases.



Located at Teku, the hospital provides all services related to Tropical and Infectious Diseases along with providing out-patient services, laboratory, X-ray services and twenty four hour emergency services. The hospital which also operates DOTS clinic and HIV/AIDS counseling and clinic every day treats patients with diseases such as Typhoid fever, Leishmaniasis (kala-azar), Malaria, Tetanus, Rabies, Snake bite, animal bites (dog bite, monkey bite, leopard bike, bear bite and rat bite among others), Meningitis, Encephalitis, etc. as major diseases. Known for the quality medical services, the hospital has also taken part in scientific research activities with national and international collaboration.

The hospital runs training on infectious and tropical diseases, HIV/AIDS, rabies, snake bites, etc. in its own training hall with capacity of 100 trainees at a time. It also offers fellowship, internship and after related trainings to the international students.

The development board of Sukraraj Tropical and Infectious Disease Hospital has plans to develop the hospital into an Institute of Tropical Medicine (ITM). The hospital offers out-patient services such as twenty four hour Emergency services, General O.P.D., Pediatric O.P.D., Indoor services, X-ray services, Ultra sound, Pathology, Anti-rabies vaccine, Direct Observed therapy for T.B (DOTS), Vaccination and HIV/AIDS clinic with ART Center and Indoor services such as Emergency service observation bed Rabies, General ward (including isolation), Gastro ward (including isolation) and Special Ward/Cabin.
