Kathaa, a Nepali feature film directed by Prashant Rasaily from Sikkim has been selected for screening at the Goteborg International Film Festival in Sweden. The film will be shown in January 25, 2013, making it the first film from Sikkim to be shown at the fest. The movie, Kathaa, was also premiered and screened at the Mumbai International Film Festival in October, 2012, under the best Indian films category and this year (2012/13), Kathaa is the only movie from India to be selected for the Goteborg Film Festival.

Although Kathaa was directed and produced in Sikkim (a state of India), it is a Nepali feature film featuring Nepali (Nepal-born) star casts. The movie is also the first film from Sikkim to be screened at any international fest and being screened at the Goteborg International Film Festival which is one of the largest film events in the world that gets around 1,30,000 entries from Africa, United States and Asia is definitely an honor for the film. The 110 minute Nepali low-budget movie was made at a cost of Rs 30 lakh and it features some of the well known Nepali actors like Saugat Malla, Usha Rajak and Timothy Rai.

The movie was shot in a small and quite village named Gnathang in East Sikkim near India-China border. The shoot for the movie was completed in fourteen days.

After the screening of the movie in the Mumbai Film Festival, an Indian programmer of the Goteborg Film Festival met with the director and expressed her impression of the movie which she found to be as one of the best Indian movies she had seen and he had received an invitation to participate in the Goteborg Film Festival the very next day.

Kathaa is the second feature film by the director Rasaily who had made several documentaries. The movie has also been sent to Berlinale Film Festival which would be held in February 2013 making it one of the most awaited Nepali movies of the year.
