Juice N Shakes

Thamel, being a tourist hub, is one of the first choices for the restaurants and café owners to open up their business and also has many big and small eateries around the place. Amidst all these big and small business tucked in an alley leading to Zaika, opposite to Northfield Café is a little joint called ‘Juice N Shakes’ owned by Ram Chandra Hada. This small joint is nothing much to look at with only four tiny tables accompanied by not so comfortable long stools, however, as we say ‘do not judge a book by its cover, this joint offers one of the best juice and shakes in the Kathmandu valley.

The thick shakes available here not only quench your thirst but also help satisfying hunger. The shake gives the taste of actual fruit taste and does not have added sugar or artificial sweetness. The owner uses condensed milk rather than artificial flavoring so the shake is refreshing and tasty as well. One of the oldest establishments in Thamel, the joint has already served the hippies during the 80s and still hasn’t changed. The only decoration in the joint is the collection of photographs and letters sent by the clients and supporters from all over the world.

The joint was opened 17 years ago and was immediate success when the owners stayed open 24/7 for three months. There were about four people working back then unlike present when it is only one person running the establishment. He uses his same old mixer and follows the same recipe he had been using for years now. Strawberry and banana milkshake, chocolate banana concoction, etc. are some of the specialties of the place. Also, the healthier options that are the fresh fruit shakes and juices made from seasonal fruits are available on the menu with a recent addition of the breakfast items.

The small space and limited number of stools might not make it an ideal place for conversation while enjoying refreshing shakes, however, it is the best place to quench your thirst and beat the heat.
