A national level banking and finance academy, National Banking Training Institute (NBTI) was established by the initiation of Nepal Bankers’ Association with support from Asian Development Bank. Nepal Rastra Bank and Rural Microfinance Development Center (RMDC) are also the promoters of the training institute.

Established with the vision of becoming a catalyst for establishment of standards of banking, financial services and rural finance proficiency for the development of a nation-wide system of training and awards for achievement of such standards as well as for the recognition of these awards as the equivalent of those from other professional bodies, the institute believes in providing quality services and trainings to the future bankers.

The institute has the mission of providing a service to the banking and rural finance sectors that ensures rising standards of professional competence so that the banking sector operates effectively in an increasingly competitive market, rural finance institutions and their clients and more efficient in the use of funds and a mutually beneficial partnership growing between private commercial banks and rural financial institutions. It aims to establish standards of proficiency to guide banking practice, form a key criterion for entry to and advancement in career in finance and banking in Nepal and be the core of curricula and courses at the National Banking Training Institute (NBTI).

Its objectives include promoting high standards of proficiency as the base for RFI/MFI partnership with commercial banks in financing rural enterprise, provide access to NBTI training across the nation for people employed or seeking employment in the financial sector and lift levels of professional competence throughout the financial sector. The institute specializes in four areas that are trainings, research, academic programs and knowledge consulting.

It provides trainings and professional development programs to serve the needs of financial industry in the area of banking and finance as well as management development. It also plans to develop programs for RFI’s and MFIs including cooperatives at the lower level. It aspires to carry out research in financial areas with major focus on professional development, industry changes, financial and economic indicators, research on micro credit, research on cooperatives and new trends and technologies. The institute also aims to be the Banking Academy of Nepal in future by covering areas such as degree granting institute, affiliations and accreditations, cutting edge programs and joint programs with foreign institutes.

The institute has collected the resources from commercial banks, Nepal Rastra Bank and Asian Development Bank in order start a premier institute which aims to be a leading institute for training and academic courses in banking and financial sector with the aim of its standard quality program and accreditation process. It also offers customized trainings for the banks and other organization which are based on their internal need and could be delivered at their place or at NBTI’s office.
